We are building a global community of thoughtful travelers
Being thoughtful starts by learning just 3 words in that foreign language:
hello
please
thank you
That’s it. Super easy to show respect to the culture, and you’d be surprised how fast you can make friends locally by asking them to teach you.
But there’s so much more to it, and we’re on an adventure to help share the right information to travelers so that you’re kind, confident, and just not an asshole next time you step foot in a foreign land.
And yes, we know this site is created with an English-first perspective. That’s not our vision, but we have to start somewhere.
Here’s how we put thoughtfulness in action at hello, please, thank you:
Basic translations on every post. If you’re reading about France, we’ll include how to say hello, please, and thank you in French. Same for Albania, Faroe Islands, Chile, and the 200+ other countries out there. :)
Tips on local customs. Should you tip? Are their hand gestures you should avoid? How do you signal that the food is tasty? Another great way to show kindness while traveling.
Real recommendations. Traditional travel blogs will just list things to do and hotels to book and restaurants to eat in without having thought about much else besides getting you to click. We have all of this, but we have visited every place we’ve recommended.
Authentic to the location. Sorry, but you’re not gonna find out where the Starbucks is in Rome on this site.
The truth. We won’t say everything is always “wonderful” and “amazing” because it’s just not. If the food is terrible, we will tell you.
No death by links. No random links just to get affiliate revenue. We were on a site earlier and clicked “accommodation in Albania,” that just took us to a long list on booking.com. Blerg.
Respectful advertising. Yes, as a travel blog, we need to make revenue from ads, but we promise we won’t slap you in the face with them / ask you to close 47 pop ups during your time here. We will make less money, but you’ll be happier. That matters more.
Hope you enjoy what we’ve pulled together. Happy and kind travels.
p.s. we could not find a single resource that translated either hello, please, or thank you into every language on the planet. So we started do it ourselves here.
